Grace and peace to you in the spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Interim Pastor/Head of Staff for First Congregational Church UCC, Kalamazoo. My title is the Reverend Dr. Nancy Kahaian, and I officially begin on Thursday, July 15, 2021 to serve as the Interim Pastor/Head of Staff.
Most recently, I served as the Interim Pastor/HOS of a large downtown Presbyterian congregation in Charleston, West Virginia, their capital city. During my tenure pre-pandemic and in the past unprecedented year, I led efforts to nurture staff members, strengthen lay leadership, and was a catalyst for a local ecumenical interfaith coalition. I helped energize the adult Christian education program, lead meaningful worship, and delighted in ministry with children.
My previous pastoral experience within the church is wide and varied: small town congregation, a yoked rural church setting, suburban and downtown congregations. I have also served within the judicatory structures of the Presbyterian Church (USA), as a Presbytery executive and a Synod executive.
As a child of the mitten state, I am quite familiar with navigating the ‘hand map, to indicate my general geographic location within the lower peninsula. I was raised on a small farm in southcentral Michigan, am a graduate of Kalamazoo College (Yay!) and Yale University Divinity School. I earned the Doctor of Ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago.
I am delighted to be coming to be among you to serve, and look forward to meeting you this summer.
For the sake of the gospel,
The Reverend Dr. Nancy Kahaian
